New Delhi, Nov 22 (The Street Press India) – On Wednesday morning, the air in the city got even worse, falling into the “very poor” category on the air quality scale.
At 9:05 am on Wednesday, the Air Quality Index for the city reached 394, climbing from 365 on Tuesday. The minimum temperature was 10.6 degrees Celsius, slightly below normal, with a relative humidity of 76% at 8:30 am.
After a slight improvement on Sunday, Delhi has experienced a notable rise in AQI levels. By 4 pm on Monday, the city’s AQI reached 348, marking a decline from 301 on Sunday. AQI categories range from good (0-50) to severe plus (above 450), with the current level falling into the “very poor” range.
AQI levels surged following the removal of strict measures on Saturday by the Centre, which included lifting bans on construction work for linear projects and the entry of polluting trucks in Delhi. These restrictions had initially been imposed due to improved pollution levels attributed to favorable wind speed and direction.
These actions represent the last stage, known as Stage IV, in the Centre’s air pollution control strategy known as the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).
