Vir Das Secures First International Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series

For the actor-comic, this marked his second nomination and first victory in the segment. He shared the trophy with the well-loved British teen sitcom 'Derry Girls' season three.

Nov 21 (The Street Press India) – Actor and comedian Vir Das clinched the International Emmy Award in the best comedy series category for his stand-up special “Vir Das: Landing,” as announced by the event organizers.

The awards ceremony took place in New York on Monday night.

Das secured his first win in the category after being nominated for the second time. He shared the trophy with the widely-loved British teen sitcom “Derry Girls” season three.

Das expressed, Winning the International Emmy Award for the best comedy series is “an incredible honor that feels like a dream.”

Das shared in a statement, “Winning an Emmy for ‘Vir Das: Landing’ in the ‘Comedy Category’ is not just a milestone for me but for Indian comedy as a whole. It’s heartening to see ‘Vir Das: Landing’ resonate globally, thanks to Netflix, Aakash Sharma and Reg Tigerman who made it special.”

Das has also become the first Indian comedian to achieve this remarkable feat.

Shefali Shah and Jim Sarbh were also among the Indian artists nominated at the annual international awards ceremony.

Shah, nominated in the best actress category for the second season of the Netflix show “Delhi Crime,” did not secure the title, which went to Mexican star Carla Souza for “La Caida (Dive).”

“Rocket Boys” star Jim Sarbh, despite his nomination for best performance by an actor, did not secure a win. The award went to “Sherlock” alum Martin Freeman for his role in “The Responder.”
